Choose TPU for AMS when automatic feeding through a supported AMS is the priority. Choose TPU 95A when you want the 95A material and can feed it from the printer’s external spool path. There is no exact Shore A-to-D conversion.
What changes between the lines?
| Check | TPU for AMS | TPU 95A HF |
|---|---|---|
| Hardness label | 68D | 95A |
| AMS Lite | Listed compatible | Not compatible |
| AMS 2 Pro | Listed supported by feeder specs | Listed unsupported |
| AMS HT | Listed for normal feed | Bypass outlet only. Not automatic feed. |
| What to expect | A stiffer flexible line aimed at automatic feeding | A separate softer TPU line; use a supported external path where the feeder excludes it |
The source for each line is its own product page: TPU for AMS and TPU 95A HF. The TPU 95A HF page says every AMS series is incompatible. AMS HT specs still list TPU for AMS for normal feed and put TPU 95A on the bypass outlet, which cannot auto-feed or retract. The AMS 2 Pro specs list TPU for AMS as supported and generic TPU or TPU 95A as unsupported. The AMS Lite specs make the same generic TPU exclusion.
Do not convert Shore A into Shore D by subtraction
Shore A and Shore D use different test scales. A 68D reading cannot be converted into a precise “equivalent” 95A value using a simple chart. Compare the printed hardness on each product, then use the feeder compatibility statement for that exact line.
That distinction matters in practice: “TPU” alone is too broad to determine whether a feeder can push a spool. Bambu’s 85A and 90A page also marks those soft grades incompatible with AMS and AMS Lite, while listing AMS HT as compatible through the bypass outlet and its feeding instructions.
Match the material to the feed path
- For multicolor feeding through AMS Lite, confirm the exact line is Bambu TPU for AMS and follow its loading notes.
- For TPU 95A HF, use the printer’s supported external-spool route where the product and printer documentation allow it.
- For AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT, check the exact current feeder and filament compatibility pages. “AMS” in a product name is not enough.
Owner reports in the Bambu TPU discussion explain why users separate AMS-specific TPU from 95A. Treat those posts as examples, not a universal profile or approval.

Common questions
Is TPU for AMS the same as TPU 95A?
No. Bambu lists TPU for AMS at 68D and TPU 95A HF as a separate product line with different feeder compatibility.
Which is softer, 68D or 95A?
The labels are on different Shore scales. Do not convert them into an exact numerical equivalent; compare each product’s own specification and intended use.
Can TPU 95A run through AMS Lite?
Bambu lists TPU 95A as unsupported through AMS Lite. Use the printer’s documented external spool path instead.
