Which PLA filament should a beginner buy?
For a first 1.75 mm spool, choose OVERTURE if you want the published profile shown below as your starting point. Choose SUNLU if you already have a matching printer profile and its delivered price is lower. Neither has been established as the better performer in our own tests.

Storage and print quality
Keep PLA sealed with desiccant when it is not in use, and inspect a spool that has become brittle, noisy, or unusually stringy. Moisture is only one possible cause, so confirm the profile, nozzle, bed, and first layer before blaming storage.
Store spools in a dry container and keep the filament path clean. If a print develops unexplained stringing or rough surfaces, change one variable at a time. A fresh first layer and a known profile provide a better baseline than aggressive temperature changes.
When to choose something else
Move away from PLA when a part must remain stable in sustained heat, live outdoors, or flex repeatedly. PETG can add useful toughness, ASA is a better outdoor candidate, and TPU handles flexible jobs when the printer can guide soft filament reliably.
