Do AMS Lite and A1 need a filament dryer?

AMS Lite handles spool selection and feeding. Its published product page does not list a heater or drying cycle. Whether a separate dryer is useful depends on the filament line and its maker’s instructions.

Do not buy a dryer just because you own an A1 or AMS Lite. Check the exact spool’s drying schedule; use separate drying equipment only when the material maker calls for it or repeatable moisture symptoms remain.

The feeder does not replace drying

Bambu describes AMS Lite as an automatic material system and publishes feeder and spool specifications. Its AMS Lite page does not list a heating or filament-drying cycle. A sealed or covered spool holder can slow moisture exposure, but storage is not the same job as drying.

Check the exact filament schedule

Drying rules vary by product line. For example, Bambu’s drying chart lists 70°C for 8 hours in a forced-air oven for TPU for AMS, while ELEGOO Rapid PETG lists 60°C for 8 hours. Follow the exact spool maker’s current instructions and stay within the dryer’s operating limits. The dryer guide’s schedule table collects several cited examples.

What needs to match the setup?

  • The dryer’s published temperature must meet the filament maker’s schedule without exceeding the spool’s heat limit.
  • The spool must turn freely if you plan to print from the dryer; use only its supported outlet and route.
  • Heat, moving air, and a way for moisture to leave the chamber are separate equipment details. A storage box or feeder alone does not establish a drying cycle.

For equipment choices, see the filament dryer guide. For A1 feeder questions, compare AMS Lite TPU support and the compatibility table.

Common questions

Does AMS Lite dry filament?

Bambu describes AMS Lite as an automatic feeder and does not list a heating or drying cycle in its published specifications.

Do I need a dryer for every A1 spool?

No. Follow the exact filament maker’s drying instructions. A separate dryer is useful when that product calls for drying or repeatable moisture symptoms remain.

Can I print from a dryer with AMS Lite?

Only if the dryer supports a filament outlet and the complete feed path works with the printer. Follow both the dryer and printer manuals; AMS Lite itself is a separate feeder.
